The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch recently released a new toolkit for this year’s Healthy and Safe Swimming Week, observed on May 22-28, 2017. The toolkit includes messaging guidance, social media tools, promotional templates and other resources designed to support public health partners with aquatic safety outreach and education activities throughout the week. The 2017 theme is Diarrhea and Swimming Don’t Mix, with the goal to increase public awareness on the importance of staying out of recreational water (e.g., swimming pools, hot tubs) when experiencing diarrhea. Local health departments and their partners are highly encouraged to use this promotional toolkit to engage the communities they serve on this important health topic.
