The Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is accepting applications January 2-18, 2018 to host a public health associate to start in October 2018. PHAP is a two-year training program with the mission to train and provide experiential learning to early-career public health professionals. It is a great opportunity to build your organization’s internal workforce capacity and have an impact on developing the skills of the future public health workforce. CDC pays associate’s salary and benefits.

The CDC-sponsored training program is for individuals with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with little or no public health work experience but who are interested in a career in public health. PHAP enables early-career public health professionals to gain hands-on, real-life experience in the day-to-day operations of public health programs. State, tribal, local, and territorial public health departments; non-governmental organizations, and CDC quarantine stations are encouraged to apply as a host site. Associates will hold positions that help build host site capacity to provide public health services.

CDC is interested in bridging the gap in health between rural and urban communities. Rural health departments and non-governmental organizations are encouraged to apply to host an associate. Rural organizations can benefit from hosting an associate from PHAP to build internal capacity, and expand the public health workforce with the aim of increasing healthier behaviors and neighborhoods, and better access to healthcare services.

CDC developed a two-part technical assistance webinar series for organizations interested in learning more about PHAP and applying to host an associate.
