Last month, Chicago’s City Council passed a resolution establishing a “Health in All Policies” approach to guide the decision making process across all city agencies and departments. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Health in All Policies or HiAP is a an approach to public policies that systematically takes into account the health implications of decisions, seeks synergies, and avoids harmful health impacts in order to improve population health and health equity. The HiAP resolution in Chicago is a monumental accomplishment that few cities have been able to achieve.
