Addressing Social Inequities and STI Disparities Webinar Slides
NACCHO recently hosted a webinar, Addressing Social Inequities and STI Disparities. We were joined by Errol Fields, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine within the Department of Pediatrics Division of Adolescent/Young Adult Medicine. During the webinar, Dr. Fields focused on syphilis and its disproportionate burden on the Black community, as well as how race and sexuality contribute to sexual health disparities, and strategies that can be employed to eliminate those disparities. Check your Stigma at the Door Webinar
Join the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for a webinar, Check Your Stigma at the Door, on Thursday, June 1st, 2023, at 1:30pm EST. During the webinar, Dr. Ina Park will explore and present on how the history and culture of HIV/STIs impacts our perception and attitudes towards HIV/STIs today. She will also discuss how stigma impacts HIV/STI prevention and care and the Mpox outbreak response, and how de-stigmatization is important to reach vulnerable communities.Dr. Park has more than two decades of experience speaking on HIV/STI topics and is well versed in using storytelling and humor to bring these topics to life! There has been a recent cluster of new Mpox cases in Chicago, and there are concerns about re-emergence of Mpox infections over the summer. Local Health Departments are encouraged to ramp up their Mpox prevention messaging and services. This newsletter reviews current information, resources, and tools pertinent to Mpox prevention and treatment, and includes communication guides for Local Health Departments.
Youth Risk Behavior Survey Data Released
CDC released the 2021 national Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) full dataset and results. Analyses of the survey results are being released in a Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report Surveillance Supplement. The supplement includes eleven reports that highlight prevalent and emerging health risk behaviors and experiences among U.S. high school students.
