The Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress (CSTS) has released a new report entitled “Disaster, Disease, and Distress: Resources to Promote Psychological Health in Military and Civilian Communities.” As a compilation of public education resources from CSTS, the report addresses the psychological impact and health implications of populations exposed to traumatic events, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, and public health threats. This report explores topics including posttraumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; unique military family issues such as health risk behaviors and the impact of frequent moves on healthcare routines; and responder self-care, disaster care, and disaster leadership. Additional public education resources are available from CSTS to help others prepare for, respond to, and recover from specific traumatic events.
