Highlights: NACCHO, in collaboration with CDC’s DGMQ conducted a two-day meeting focused on strengthening communications between airport officials, local health departments, and responding agencies. The meeting was attended by DGMQ, local health officials, emergency management officials, first responders, and airport personnel. The group discussed issues that were highlighted in the recent NACCHO publication, “Communicable Disease Preparedness on Domestic Flights: A Summary Report of Local Health Department and Airport Coordination,” which focuses on identifying challenges related to the coordination, authorities, and issues in managing suspected communicable diseases aboard domestic flights. In August, we will revisit the summary report and further discuss issues surrounding establishing command and control procedures, identifying all agencies involved in the response, and clarifying the roles of these agencies.
