The latest “From the Field” column in the November/December 2022 issue of Health Security highlights COVID-19 response lessons learned from the Kauai District Health Office of the Hawaii Department of Health. Authors provide examples of local response efforts in the areas of (1) policy and regulations, (2) health-directed isolation and quarantine, (3) case investigation and contact tracing, (4) testing availability, (5) vaccine rollout and availability, and (6) public information, as well as the factors that have contributed to Kauai’s successes.
The authors also illustrate how, “with a strong foundation, local public health emergency response can be timely, effective, and collaborative—and most important, lifesaving.”
