The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it would extend the comment period on the Clean Power Plan (CPP) until Dec. 1, 2014. Last week, a bi-partisan group of 53 senators formally requested an extension of 60 days due to the “complexity and magnitude of the proposed rule.” The EPA provided an additional 45 days to the comment period, previously set to close on Oct. 16.
The CPP, proposed on June 2, provides plans for the first-ever limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants. Scheduled to be in place by 2030, the proposed rule builds on actions states have already begun to take in addressing the risks of climate change.
