Despite the efforts of local public health agencies, healthcare providers, community-based organizations and many other partners and stakeholders, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis rates in the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) are on the rise. The St. Louis MSA is a geographic region comprised of the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County, and several neighboring counties in Missouri and Illinois. In a population of 2,801,914, three in four (76.4%) MSA residents are white, 18.2% are African American, and 2.8% are Hispanic/Latino, and 13.1% of residents has a household income below the federal poverty level.
