The CDC Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR) seeks proposals to conduct innovative research to improve the ability of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its partners, especially state and local health departments, to effectively prepare for and respond to public health emergencies and disasters. The CDC CPR anticipates that the knowledge resulting from awards made under this announcement will contribute significantly to the evidence base for preparedness and response and lead to improved efficiency, effectiveness, and outcomes in several domains.
Research topics were identified and prioritized through a systematic process, based on the needs of CPR. Topic areas in this solicitation are as follows (refer to the announcement for detailed explanations and requirements):
- Topic 1: Assessment of U.S. clinical laboratories’ willingness and ability to support public health emergency response
- Topic 2: Public health use of current resources and existing surveillance systems to monitor mental and behavioral health after an emergency
- Topic 3: Determining the ease of reverting select agent excluded strains or modified toxins to restore pathogenicity, transmissibility, virulence, or toxicity
Eligible organizations include accredited U.S. schools and programs of public health; other accredited U.S. institutions of higher education and academic departments; private or public research institutes and centers based in the U.S.; for-profit and non-profit scientific, consulting, and advisory organizations in the U.S.; and state or local government agencies within the U.S. The concept paper submission deadline is May 17, 2019
