Grant Opportunity Available: HPP and PHEP Cooperative Agreements

Mar 19, 2014 | Admin

The notice for the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) and Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Cooperative Agreements has been published on Grants.gov here. These grants are offered through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response/National Healthcare Preparedness Programs and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response. These two programs are the primary, and in many cases, only, source of preparedness funding for local health departments.

The HPP grant funds the states, territories, and four directly funded cities of New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. These entities then fund other local health departments, healthcare facilities, and other partners (i.e., academic institutions, faith-based organizations, etc.) in an effort to build and sustain the capabilities and capacity to respond to medical surge resulting from a mass casualty incident; natural or human-caused, an infectious disease outbreak such as an influenza pandemic or foodborne illness; and other catastrophic events.

The PHEP program primarily strengthens the public health enterprise by building a community’s capacity and capability to prepare and plan for, respond to, recover from, and build community resilience following disasters and other public health emergencies. Most of this funding goes to developing and exercising disasters plans, building and sustaining surveillance systems to identify emerging threats, and preparing and training a workforce that is equipped to respond.

The closing date for applications in May 9, 2014. Learn more about the funding opportunity.
