How We Got Comprehensive Sex Ed in Rural Kentucky

A few years ago, two high schoolers got pregnant in Lee County, KY. One of them didn’t know that birth control could prevent pregnancy. The other didn’t know she was pregnant, because she had never been taught how it happens or progresses. This rural area of Kentucky doesn’t seem like a likely place for comprehensive sexual education or even abstinence education, but Susan Kincaid, a Health Educator at the Kentucky River District Health Department, decided that enough was enough.
