Incident Management Workgroup September Report

Oct 14, 2016 | Anastasia Sonneman

The second Incident Management Workgroup meeting of the 2016-2017 project year was held on September 26, 2016. This meeting was used to approve the workgroup goals introduced last month. The workgroup approved three goals for this year, listed below.

  1. Strengthen local health department partnerships with Colleges and Universities, K-12 schools, and local businesses as they relate to preparedness and incident management;
  2. Improve and increase chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense (CBRNe) preparedness; and
  3. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to NACCHO and its partners on products, program, policies, and procedures related to incident management and public health preparedness.

One upcoming activity for the third identified workgroup goal is to review and communicate the updated and soon to be released National Incident Management System (NIMS) refresh.

***
The Incident Management Workgroup addresses topics related to the use of NIMS and the Incident Command System (ICS), the Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Capability Three: Emergency Operations Coordination, and incident specific issues, such as those related to CBRNE. The membership of the workgroup consists of local health officials and public health preparedness professionals. For more information, contact Chelsea Gridley-Smith, NACCHO staff lead for the Incident Management Workgroup.
