Highlights: NACCHO participated in a meeting of the Informal Coalition on Biodefense, which includes representatives from American Academy of Pediatrics, Alliance for Biosecurity, Trust for America’s Health, and several other organizations. The purpose of the meeting was to recap activities, such as joint advocacy efforts, from 2013 and plan for possible joint activities for 2014. Potential activities for 2014 include advocacy outreach efforts to Congress and hosting a potential “Speakers Series” for the coalition that could include biodefense experts, Congress staff, and leadership from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Homeland Security. Trust for America’s Health also provided a brief overview of their Outbreaks report that was released in late December.
