What You Don’t Know About Radiation Risk: The Current State of Radiation Readiness
Radiological and nuclear (rad/nuc) events are increasingly on the forefront of preparedness professionals’ minds as clear and present threats to national health security. Fear, a degree of uncertainty about the true full spectrum of rad/nuc threats and risks we face today, and the reality of limited specialized preparedness and response resources and attention given to this matter, driven in part by many competing priorities, are hampering effective public health and healthcare planning for these events.
This session will provide an academic perspective on the current and evolving threat environment; discuss the policy, strategy, and resource priorities and gaps our communities must address; and provide a clinical perspective on aspects of mass casualty care during an incident.
Vegas Strong: A Community Moving from Tragedy to Resilience
Presenters will facilitate a multi-disciplinary discussion on the challenges and best practices of moving from response to recovery in the aftermath of October’s mass casulaty incident in Las Vegas.
Since its beginning in 2006, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has taken a leadership role in convening a wide array of partners to participate in the Summit; presenting new research findings, sharing tools and resources, and providing a variety of opportunities for attendees to learn how to implement model practices that enhance the nation’s capabilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and other emergencies.
