Two local health departments/districts (LHDs) in Connecticut, the New Haven Health Department (NHV Health) and the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District (WHBHD), conducted tabletop exercises in April and May, respectively, to evaluate their department’s readiness in the event of a measles outbreak. Participants in the exercises represented the respective LHD, local emergency management, local school health administration, and local healthcare facilities. In the WHBHD exercise in particular, representatives from LHDs across the state were invited to observe, including individuals from the State Department of Public Health, National Association of County and City Health Officials, and regional healthcare coalition partners.
On July 31, 11AM-12PM ET, NACCHO hosted speakers from NHV Health and WHBHD as they discussed their experiences with the exercises and lessons learned for improving their department’s preparedness and response strategies.
