In June, the PPAG welcomed five new members representing local public health in Alabama, Kentucky, New Mexico, Alaska, and Indiana. NACCHO’s Government Affairs team provided an overview of legislative and policy updates including the FY18 budget request, efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, and potential impacts to the Hospital Preparedness Program and Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) program. CDC’s Director for the Division of State and Local Readiness joined the call to share updates on efforts to update the PHEP capabilities and Medical Countermeasure Operational Readiness Review tool. Members of the PPAG also shared information from the Preparedness Committee, rural and big cities preparedness, and PHEP/HPP awardee meetings at the 2017 Preparedness Summit. Common themes emerged from these meetings including an interest in activities to improve preparedness planning for at-risk and vulnerable populations, help educate policymakers and the public about the need for sustained and stable preparedness funding, and improve administrative preparedness. At the July meeting, members will be discussing the PHEP capability refresh.
