CDC’s investments through the COVID-19 Health Disparities Grant allowed state and local health agencies to use innovative practices to address COVID-19 related health disparities and advance health equity.
A new web collection, CDC’s Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities: Lessons Learned, published by the American Journal of Public Health shares promising practices and lessons learned from CDC grant recipients working to address COVID-19 related health disparities and advance health equity.
Examples from the collection include:
- The Chicago Department of Public Health used funding to work on interventions for COVID-19 mitigation among people experiencing homelessness, a population at higher risk of infection. The development of new structures and systems was critical to improving health outcomes among this population.
- The Southern Nevada Health District utilized funding to improve access to COVID-19 test kits by distributing free self-test kits through vending machines placed around the state.
