Harris County Public Health (HCPH) collaborated with the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) to produce heat-related disease burden estimates at the zip code level. The three-phase approach included creating a local health impact function, utilizing BENMap to produce future disease estimates under different climate scenarios, and creation of a machine learning model to make future analysis faster. This funded project focused on extreme heat and health, however the skills learned are transferable to other climate and health impacts such as air quality and flooding. Find out more.
