Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units assist their communities by preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies, as well as promoting public health activities all year long. During this holiday season, several MRC units are getting in the spirit by collecting items to share with the less fortunate in their communities. The Eastern Panhandle MRC in Martinsburg, WV is putting together “blessing bags” containing toiletries and food to distribute to the homeless on Christmas day. Members of the MRC from Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties in Florida worked with other partners to collect donations for Toys for Tots and local food banks on Nov. 23. These MRC volunteers also used the toy and food drive as an opportunity to test their emergency plan.
