Washington, DC, June 18, 2024 — The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), the voice of the over 3,300 local health departments across the country, in partnership with the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), has awarded $200,000 to local health departments aimed at enhancing data-sharing capabilities for timely responses to public health threats. The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services and the Northern Kentucky Independent District Health Department each received $100,000 to enable them to make data-informed decisions and allocate critical resources, like medical supplies, to swiftly support communities in crisis.
The initiative is designed to facilitate immediate access to actionable data concerning medical countermeasures and other critical public health supplies during emergencies. The main objective is to pilot a new bidirectional data-sharing framework between ASPR and local health departments, ensuring a coordinated, scalable, and timely response to public health threats that may impact national health. The funding will support both pilot sites in developing rapid response strategies by integrating technology and processes to ensure direct access to essential data.
“As we continue to face evolving public health threats, timely data-sharing is critical for effective responses and operational success,” said Lori Tremmel Freeman, NACCHO CEO. “Through this initiative, these local health departments will have the resources to swiftly and effectively reach their communities in crises and will be better equipped to provide essential resources during public health emergencies.”
