With funding from the CDC, NACCHO has launched the SPACECAT Quick Start Guide and the SPACECAT Toolkit, two new resources connected to the Suicide, Overdose, and Adverse Childhood Experiences Prevention Capacity Assessment Tool (SPACECAT). The SPACECAT was created to survey local, state, and territorial health departments regarding their capacity to address suicide, overdose, and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
The SPACECAT Quick Start Guide provides a step-by-step process to help local health departments (LHDs) translate results from their SPACECAT into public health action. The Quick Start Guide facilitates a multi-step process of environmental scanning, visioning, and action planning and includes interactive worksheets and exercises for each step. LHDs can use the Quick Start Guide to develop and implement an action plan toward building capacity in suicide, overdose, and ACEs prevention.
The SPACECAT Toolkit is a web-based toolkit that provides information and guidance on strengthening LHD capacity in each of the key capacity domains within the SPACECAT. Each section of the toolkit includes key takeaways, worksheets or tip sheets, and links to relevant tools and resources. While intended for LHDs that have completed the SPACECAT, the SPACECAT Toolkit can also serve as a resource to any entity interested in strengthening prevention capacity at the intersection of suicide, overdose, and ACEs.
