NACCHO Launching Collaborative Workgroup on Maternal-Child Health, Infectious Diseases, and Preparedness

Dec 16, 2019 | Kim Rodgers

NACCHO has received funding from the CDC Division of Birth Defects and Infant Disorders, to foster collaboration between public health preparedness, infectious disease, maternal-child health, and birth defect programs with a focus on protecting women and their infants. NACCHO’s Bridging Preparedness, Infectious Disease, Maternal-Child Health and Birth Defects within Cities and Counties project will support public health and clinical care partnerships at the local level to increase local jurisdictions’ ability to protect, respond, and support pregnant women, infants, and children from emerging threats.

To facilitate the coordination and planning of these efforts, NACCHO will convene the Maternal-Child, Infectious Disease, Preparedness (MIP) Collaborative Workgroup. The Ad-Hoc MIP Collaborative Workgroup will serve as an interdisciplinary forum to discuss the persistent and emerging issues in the field and explore the variations, gaps, and promising practices in coordinating response and surveillance activities among preparedness, infectious disease, maternal-child health, and birth defects programs.

Membership: The MIP Collaborative Workgroup will be comprised of local health department officials and health department staff with expertise and interest in the intersectionality of preparedness, infectious disease, maternal-child health, and/or birth defects. New and standing members of NACCHO’s preparedness, infectious disease, and maternal-child health workgroups are invited to apply!

Time Commitment: The workgroup will convene bi-monthly via conference call. In addition, members will be requested to contribute to reviewing tools, resources, best practices, and other programmatic materials. The workgroup term is through August 31, 2020. Continuance of the workgroup beyond this term period is dependent upon available funding.

If you are interested in joining the MIP Collaborative Workgroup, please directly contact Kimberly Scott at ksharpe-scott@naccho.org by December 30 with a brief description of your experience and the issue(s) you are interested in addressing on the workgroup.
