NACCHO Partnering to Support NIH’s All of Us Research Program

May 08, 2018 | Kim Rodgers

NACCHO, in coordination with American Public Health Association (APHA), is pleased to be a supporting partner of the National Institutes of Health “All of Us” Research Program.

The All of Us Research Program is part of the Precision Medicine Initiative. Precision medicine is health care that is based on you as an individual. It takes into account factors like where you live, what you do, and your family health history. Precision medicine’s goal is to be able to tell people the best ways to stay healthy. If someone does get sick, precision medicine may help health care teams find the treatment that will work best. This will help give health care providers the information they need to make tailored recommendations, relevant to people of different backgrounds, ages, or regions.

Now that national enrollment for the program is open, NACCHO and APHA will be working to promote the “All of Us” Research Program in an effort to create a research community of one million people who will share their unique health data. The information gathered from participants will be stored in a database so that approved researchers can access this data to explore how factors like environment, lifestyle, and genes can impact health. This may help develop new medical treatments that are unique to individuals and enable a future of precision medicine for all of us.

NACCHO and APHA recently hosted a joint webinar to provide an overview of the program and answer questions. The webinar recording and the presentation slides from our speakers, HCM Strategists and the American Association on Health and Disability, are now available for viewing.

To meet our goal of one million participants, we need your help! Local health departments are particularly well-positioned to spread the word about this program. View the webinar recording above, download a printable fact sheet, visit the All of Us website to learn more about the program, check out the FAQs, or to sign up!
