Staff working on NACCHO’s Health and Disability project will present at the American Public Health Association’s (APHA’s) Annual Meeting and Exposition. The annual meeting is Oct. 31-Nov. 4 in Chicago. The NACCHO session, “Health Promotion and Disease Prevention for People with Disabilities,” will explore the results of a national assessment of local health departments’ disability inclusion efforts.
Notable results suggest that people with disabilities are less likely to be included in public health programs and services than the general public. Local health departments are, however, most likely to include people with disabilities in emergency preparedness operations over any other kind of public health service. A research brief released earlier this year, “National Assessment of the Knowledge, Awareness, and Inclusion of People with Disabilities in Local Health Departments’ Public Practice,” provides additional detail.
The NACCHO session will be November 2, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM in room W194b.
