National Academies Seeks Preparedness After Action Reports and White Papers

Feb 28, 2019 | Raymond Puerini

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (the National Academies) is soliciting information to help inform the deliberations of a consensus study committee sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The committee has been charged with conducting a comprehensive review and grading of the evidence for select public health emergency preparedness and response (PHEPR) practices. The committee’s report will provide recommendations on PHEPR practices that public health agencies should or should not adopt based on the evidence and will also identify future research needs to address gaps in evidence-based PHEPR practices.

Recognizing that evaluations of PHEPR practices may be published not only as intervention research studies, but also as organizational reports, white papers, or program evaluations, including after action reports, the committee is issuing a call for reports to help enhance its comprehensive review. The committee is requesting reports that are relevant to the evaluation of practices, including evidence on the barriers and harms, for the following four topic areas:

  1. Engaging with and training community-based partners to improve the outcomes of at-risk populations after public health emergencies;
  2. Activating a public health emergency operations center;
  3. Sharing and exchanging public health information with technical audiences during a public health emergency; and
  4. Implementing quarantine in a public health emergency.

Anyone wishing to submit reports should email the committee at [email protected]. We request that materials be submitted by Friday, March 8, 2019. Please note that any materials or written information shared with the committee will be placed in the committee’s Public Access File (PAF), and may be provided to the public upon request.
