NACCHO is pleased to release a reference document: Zika Resources for Local Health Departments. In 2017, NACCHO conducted a literature and desk review assessment to explore local health department (LHD) preparedness and response capabilities specific to Zika virus. The literature review assessed existing resources to determine current strengths and opportunities for improvement in the following capability domains for Zika response: Planning and Response, Communication and Community Education, Vector Control, Human Surveillance, and Laboratory Testing. A desk review was then conducted to analyze LHD documentation for challenges and opportunities related to specific Zika preparedness and response activities. Thirteen LHDs submitted documents, including after-action reports, response plans, and presentation slides. NACCHO also convened a Zika Advisory Council (ZAC) of health department staff and consultants to provide additional context, validate alignment of assessment results with local experiences, and share tools and resources. This document is inclusive of templates, toolkits, and resources provided by CDC, LHDs and other partners, and can be adapted for your LHD use.
