CDC’s Interactive School Ventilation Tool is available for schools to estimate how they can reduce virus particles in classrooms, including COVID-19 particles, year-round. The tool shows how simple methods, including running HEPA air purifiers, increasing the use of outdoor air in HVAC systems when possible, and running exhaust fans, can reduce virus particles. Improving indoor air quality in schools not only helps reduce COVID-19 virus particles, but also helps protect teachers, staff and students from other respiratory illnesses.
The tool is a collaboration between CDC and the National Institute for Standards and Technology.
