New Release: 2021 Overdose Prevention and Response Survey Report

Dec 14, 2022 | Francis Higgins

NACCHO is pleased to announce the release of the 2021 Overdose Prevention and Response Survey Report. This report summarizes data collected in Summer 2021 from a nationally representative group of Local Health Departments (LHDs) and covers a number of domains critical to the ongoing response to the overdose epidemic including, but not limited to, funding, staffing, partnerships, and services offered. Access and download the report here.

The report also details how LHDs continued to deliver overdose prevention and response services while also managing the massive increase in duties due caused by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the report provides firsthand insight into the unprecedented increase in overdose fatalities from 2020 to 2021, which puts into stark relief the rapidly spiraling scale and scope of the epidemic.

While a number of resources provide a snapshot of this issue on a national or state level, this report constitutes the most comprehensive summary of activities at the local level. NACCHO believes that the data presented in this report underscores the urgent need to increase support for Local Health Departments and their partners as they serve as the frontline response to this public health crisis.
