NACCHO is pleased to release a new report to benefit the performance improvement work of local health departments (LHDs), “Summary of LHD Planning Documents: Best Practices and Trends.”
To become accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board, local health departments (LHDs) are required to have a strategic plan (SP), community health improvement plan (CHIP), and quality improvement plan (QIP). These plans guide the work of the LHD and outline priorities to ensure health, wellness, and safety of their community.
NACCHO contracted with Sinai Urban health Institute (SUHI) to conduct an environmental scan of these plans. SUHI analyzed a sample of 91 plans from 31 LHDs to answer the following research questions:
- What goals, priorities, and strategies are included in LHD strategic plans, community health improvement plans, and quality improvement plans across the country?
- How are strategic plans, community health improvement plans, and quality improvement plans similar and different across LHDs?
Findings were summarized in a public report and reviewed in a national webinar.
