National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants, and Migrants (NRC-RIM) and made possible with awards from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), supports 23 local health departments (LHDs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) collaborations to build sustainable public health responses with refugee, immigrant, and migrant (RIM) communities that are disproportionately affected by COVID-19. By strengthening partnerships with RIM communities, and collaboratively designing and implementing sustainable approach to reduce COVID-19 infections, the program is intended to identify and enhance best practices to bolster public health efforts with marginalized communities during this crisis and beyond the ongoing viral pandemic.
This workshop described the productive partnerships between NACCHO, CDC and NRC-RIM to collaboratively establish and support this program, and showcase strategies used by LHDs and CBOs to develop and strengthen partnerships and community engagement within their jurisdiction to better serve RIM populations.
The presenters shared tools and resources that highlighted the effectiveness of community engagement and partnership in mitigating the accessibility barriers to equitable healthcare in RIM communities. The workshop overviewed innovative and emerging developments and the transferability of these promising practices to address other communicable diseases in RIM communities. The presentation featured a LHD and CBO and their approach in combating inequity by implementing strategies to increase community engagement and partnership in their jurisdiction.
