In collaboration with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, NYC Medical Reserve Corps veterinarians participated in a Rabies Vaccination Day for Pets in Staten Island on March 9, 2014. Because there has been a high incidence of rabies in the animal population in Staten Island, the Department of Health planned a vaccination day in a public park. NYC MRC partnered with the DOHMH Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services to examine and provide vaccinations to dogs and cats. Over a hundred pet owners, many of them low income, came to the park and over 110 pets were vaccinated.
