Local health departments (LHDs) play a critical role in identifying and implementing strategies at the local level that support the health of communities, including programs and policies that help people incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. To better understand this critical role, NACCHO, in partnership with HHS’ Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, conducted a survey and are releasing an issue brief, “A National Review of Local Health Department Physical Activity Programs and Policies.” The scan surveyed 74 LHDs in efforts to understand the facilitators, challenges, lessons learned, and resource needs of LHDs that are engaged in promoting physical activity. Additionally, communities across the country share their successes and challenges in implementing the Move Your Way® campaign. The communities featured include Las Vegas, NV, Jackson, MS, and Cabarrus County, NC. Access the stories and issue brief here: https://bit.ly/2WknbfH
