Public Health Law Workgroup June Report

This month the Public Health Law Workgroup met with Dorit Reiss from the University of California Hastings College of Law to discuss legal incentives for vaccination. Dr. Reiss is working on studying vaccine policy in this country and legal ways to deal with costs related to outbreaks caused by lack of immunizations.

Attendees at NACCHO Annual 2014 can attend the pre-conference workshop, “Public Health Law 101 for Local Health Officials” on Tuesday, July 8 at 8AM. The workshop will feature Marice Ashe, MPH, JD, CEO, CHANGELAB Solutions; Vanessa Burrows, JD, Attorney/HIPAA Privacy Officer, Chicago Department of Public Health; Lisa Caucci, JD, MA, Senior Legal Analyst, Public Health Law Program, Office for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support, CDC; Montrece McNeill Ransom, JD, MPH, Team Lead for Training and Workforce Development, Public Health Law Program; Office for State, Tribal, Local, and Territorial Support, CDC; and Andy Roszak, JD, MPA, Senior Director, Environmental Health, Pandemic Preparedness and Catastrophic Response, NACCHO.

About Sarah Yates
Sarah Yates serves as the Program Analyst for NACCHO’s Health and Disability and Public Health Law portfolios. Sarah engages with local health departments and disability experts to increase inclusion of people with disabilities in all aspects of public health practice. She also works with health departments and legal advisers to increase understanding of how the law impacts public health, and how public health can impact the law.
