Recruiting LHD Staff: 2017-2018 NACCHO Preparedness Workgroups

Mar 31, 2017 | Anastasia Sonneman

Recruitment for 2017-2018 NACCHO advisory groups (i.e., committees and workgroups), including six Preparedness workgroups, starts on April 3, 2017 and goes through May 5, 2017. NACCHO advisory groups are a primary and recognized vehicle for identifying the opportunities and challenges facing local health departments (LHDs) and the field at large. NACCHO members from all areas of public health come together to explore the many facets of the field and help NACCHO make the best decisions in serving its members, and local public health.

NACCHO preparedness workgroups serve an advisory role in developing programs and policy that are representative of the needs of local health departments (LHDs). Interested participants are asked to complete an online application, which will become available via the NACCHO Advisory Group webpage on Monday, April 3. Additional questions and/or inquires can be directed to [email protected].

The following Preparedness workgroups are currently recruiting new members:

  • Incident Management Workgroup addresses Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Standards capability 3 as well as issues related to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive events.
  • Medical Countermeasures Workgroup addresses PHEP capabilities 8 and 9 and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise strategy.
  • Medical Reserve Corps Workgroup provides leadership, guidance and direction to NACCHO’s Medical Reserve Corps Program.
  • Preparedness Planning, Outcomes, and Measurement Workgroup addresses topics such as measuring preparedness capabilities and outcomes, performance improvement, legal preparedness, administrative preparedness, and community engagement.
  • Public Health Communications Workgroup provides strategic guidance to NACCHO in creating tools to help local health departments become more visible to policymakers and the public, and addresses expectations and standards for risk communication and public information during emergencies at local health departments.
  • Surge Management Workgroup addresses PHEP capabilities 5, 7, and 10 and issues related to coordination with healthcare coalitions.
