Program Overview
NACCHO represents almost 3,000 LHDs in the US, striving to protect and enhance community health. Its RIM program focuses on providing support and technical assistance to LHDs and CBOs, fostering and strengthening sustainable partnerships with RIM communities within their jurisdictions. The RIM team supplies culturally appropriate health communication and education resources and trains public health professionals to effectively assist LHDs in reaching RIM communities. Our current portfolio focuses on the following key issues impacting RIM communities in the US:
COVID-19 Sustainability
Refugee, immigrant, and migrant (RIM) populations in the US, have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 due to language and cultural barriers, occupational hazards, and structural racism and xenophobia. To ensure the success of COVID-19 prevention and mitigation strategies and to address inequities in COVID-19 morbidity and mortality experienced by RIM communities, NACCHO’s RIM works to provide funding to LHDs and CBOs to strengthen partnerships with RIM communities in their jurisdictions and to collaboratively design, implement, and evaluate innovative and sustainable approaches to prevention of COVID 19 and other vaccine preventable diseases.
Afghan Health
The Afghanistan humanitarian crisis has led to a large influx of Afghan refugees, who require culturally appropriate health communication resources as well as culturally competent mental health services. NACCHOs RIM works with LHDs and CBOs in jurisdictions with large Afghan resettlement to effectively build their capacity and to collaborate with Afghan refugee, immigrant, and migrant communities and community-based organizations for improved Afghan community public health.
