Resource: Using Affirming Language with LGBTQIA+ Patients

One of the most important things clinicians and client-facing staff can do to ensure equal access to quality care by LGBTQ+ clients is to know and understand the basic language that applies to this population. This resource offers guidance on asking patients about their gender identity and sexual orientation, taking a social or sexual history, and documenting gender in medical charts.
