Request for Applications: Adaptation of Project Firstline Tools and Resources by Tribal Health Departments and Local Health Departments

Sep 20, 2024 | Andrea Chavez Calvi

NACCHO is proud to be a partner of CDC’s Project Firstline, a comprehensive infection control program designed to help prevent the spread of infectious disease in U.S. healthcare settings through promotion of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices. The focus of NACCHO’s Project Firstline work aims to build the capacity of health departments to deliver training and education to their community healthcare facility partners by developing and promoting tools and resources related to IPC activities. As part of these efforts, NACCHO, with support from CDC, is pleased to offer a new technical assistance and funding opportunity: Adaptation of Project Firstline Tools and Resources by Tribal Health Departments and Local Health Departments (LHDs). The funding and technical assistance will be made available for two cohorts, Tribal health departments and LHDs, to support IPC work in their jurisdiction’s healthcare facilities.

NACCHO will issue two awards depending on the category of engagement: Tribal health departments and LHDs who select to complete only the required scope of work will receive awards up to $150,000, and those seeking to complete the required and supplemental activities will be eligible to receive up to $200,000.

The goal of this project is to strengthen capacity in healthcare IPC by piloting and adapting tools and best practices utilizing Project Firstline resources. All awardees, regardless of cohort, will:

  • Complete an initial assessment to identify IPC-related training needs;
  • Participate in monthly calls with NACCHO to monitor progress, facilitate peer-exchange, and provide technical assistance;
  • Identify, adapt and implement at least four existing Project Firstline tools and resources as part of specific outreach, education, or training activities for healthcare facilities in the jurisdiction or locality;
  • Participate in evaluation-related activities to track and measure progress towards expressed outcomes;
  • Attend an in-person convening; and
  • Submit an end-of-project report.

The project period is expected to begin December 2, 2024, and will end August 29, 2025. Applications must be submitted through one of the online forms below by Friday, October 18, 2024, at 11:59PM PDT. The anticipated notice of award date is November 1, 2024. Please apply for the cohort that most accurately fits your agency (i.e. Tribal health department or LHD).

All necessary information regarding the project and application process may be found in the corresponding cohort RFA: Tribal Health Department Request for Applications (RFA) or Local Health Department Request for Applications (RFA), and a Frequently Asked Questions document. Applicants may ask questions at any point during the application process by emailing [email protected] and CC Andrea Chavez Calvi at [email protected].

NACCHO hosted an optional informational webinar for interested applicants on September 30, 2024, at 3:00PM EST (12:00 PM PDT) to review the RFA and respond to questions.
