Seeking Nominations: 2017 Environmental Public Health Team Award

Jul 31, 2017 | Amy Chang

The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is currently accepting nominations for the John J. Guzewich Environmental Public Health Team Award. This award aims to promote the critical role of local, state, tribal and territorial environmental public health departments in protecting their communities and the entire nation from foodborne illness. In addition, by recognizing outstanding food safety professionals and/or agencies, this award seeks to encourage future innovative programming and best practices in foodborne illness prevention.

Nominations will be accepted through COB September 15, 2017 and should be sent by email to Elizabeth Landeen at [email protected]. Prior to submitting a nomination, please see below for details on applicant eligibility, application requirements and award presentation.

Eligibility: Ideal candidates are either individual(s) or local, state, tribal or territorial environmental public health jurisdictions that have demonstrated exceptional collaboration and multidisciplinary teamwork in detection, response and/or prevention of foodborne illness during 2016-2017. Teamwork is defined as integration, communication and collaboration of all involved parties in the foodborne illness outbreak investigation. Individual(s) or groups who have developed and implemented process or procedures to reduce future foodborne illness are also eligible.

Applications: Nominations must include the name, job title, and affiliation of the candidate or the agency as well as a concise statement (500 words or less) providing reasoning on why the nominee meets the award criteria. Applications should also include the name, contact information, and affiliation of the individual/ agency completing the nomination.

Presentation: Selected award will be recognized during the InFORM (Integrated Foodborne Outbreak Response and Management) Conference scheduled for November 6-9, 2017 in Garden Grove, CA. InFORM is an avenue to support the integration, education, collaboration, and communication between the three disciplines with responsibility for foodborne illness investigations: laboratory, epidemiology, and EPH.
