In 2011, Sepsis Alliance designated September as Sepsis Awareness Month. Over the last eight years, this health observance has increased sepsis awareness in the United States from 42% to 65%. Despite these great strides, sepsis remains a public health crisis, taking a life every two minutes. Sepsis takes more lives than opioid overdoses, breast cancer, and prostate cancer combined.
To continue to raise awareness and decrease sepsis cases, the organization has developed the Sepsis Awareness Toolkit for Healthcare Providers & Local Government. With this toolkit – which includes key messages, patient and community engagement tips, digital communications resources, advocacy tips, event planning resources – invited healthcare professionals in every area of medicine and local government agencies can help save lives by raising awareness of the leading cause of deaths in U.S. hospitals: sepsis.
