The National Association of County and City Health Officials Announces Awards to Increase Disability Inclusion in Community Health Planning

Jan 03, 2020 | Theresa Spinner

Washington, DC, January 3, 2020 – The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), the voice of the country’s nearly 3,000 local governmental health departments, with support from the National Center for Health, Physical Activity, and Disability (NCHPAD), announces two local health departments were recently awarded grants to participate in the Increasing Disability Inclusion in the Mobilizing for Action Through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) Process project.

The following local health departments have been awarded $10,000 each to participate in the Increasing Disability Inclusion in the MAPP Process project:

This project will support local health departments as they include people with disabilities in their community health assessment and/or community health improvement plan efforts using the MAPP framework and the new MAPP Resource Guide for Disability Inclusion. This will ensure data is collected and used to inform strategic priorities and place-based programs and services that support the health of people with disabilities. NACCHO and NCHPAD will provide tools and resources, technical assistance, and subject matter expertise throughout the project period.

The selected local health departments were asked to demonstrate their experience in using the MAPP process as a framework to complete community health improvement plans, as well as a history of partnerships with organizations within their jurisdiction that serve people with disabilities.

Each grantee will participate in one-on-one technical assistance calls led by NACCHO to provide guidance on including people with disabilities throughout the MAPP process, as well as develop a success story to highlight their work to the local community and so that other local health departments can learn from their experience.
