A recent article in Food Safety Magazine describes the daily efforts of state and local environmental public health officials to investigate localized foodborne illness outbreaks. While these smaller outbreaks do not always garner significant media attention, investigating them is still very important to keeping communities safe and healthy. Many health officials are pioneering innovative investigation methods at the local level.
