In response to the “bomb cyclone” in the Midwest, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has published food safety tips for people in the areas affected. See additional food safety resources from FSIS below.
FSIS’ YouTube video “Food Safety During Power Outages” has instructions for keeping frozen and refrigerated food safe. This blog post on Winter Weather Food Safety offers tips on how to keep your food supply safe following a storm. The publication “A Consumer’s Guide to Food Safety: Severe Storms and Hurricanes” can be downloaded and printed for reference during a power outage. Infographics on FSIS’ Flickr page outline steps you can take before, during and after severe weather, power outages and flooding.
