Frank M. Yiannas, vice president for food safety at Walmart and Sam’s Club stores, will take over for Dr. Stephen Ostroff as the top food safety official at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Ostroff will retire in January 2019 as deputy commissioner for foods and veterinary medicine. Due to reorganization within FDA, Mr. Yiannas will join as the head of the FDA’s Office of Food Policy and Response, focusing on outbreak response and implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act.
