As we wrap up National Public Health Week (April 3-9, 2023), I want to take a moment to say thank you and reflect on the important work done by the thousands of individuals who serve in local health departments. Thank you for all you do for your communities, but also for the nation as a whole. In my remarks below, I explain the importance of local public health.

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), the voice of our country’s local health departments, applauds the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for updating its hepatitis B screening and testing recommendations.
Targeted climate-focused resources including a free, four-hour training that will equip health professionals with the knowledge, hands-on experience, and resources to speak and act confidently on climate change, the impacts on health, and solutions.
