Education is the first step to understanding the social determinants of health and making on impact on health outcomes. Our team developed a presentation to take to professionals and key stakeholders in our community to demonstrate and provide tools to identify and subsequently address the social determinants of health.
Live Well Madera County’s Community Health Improvement Plan goals will focus exclusively on upstream preventative intervention. In addition to CHIP goals to address the two strategic priorities, diabetes and obesity and child abuse and neglect, the over 25 Live Well partners agreed the CHIP will incorporate Health in All Policies approaches in their agency practices.
Visitors to Yosemite National Park might have seen her ⎯ a young woman working as a housekeeper at one of the hotels catering to the thousands of tourists who stream through Mariposa County every year.
Every weekday around noon, local residents, workers, high school students, and visitors to Mariposa County head to the parking areas near the Mariposa History Museum in search of their favorite street food. Our goal is to accurately reflect the health needs and gaps in the...
The opioid epidemic has spread rapidly and uncontrollably through our country and our community. Research consistently links Adverse Childhood Experiences and Adverse Community Environments, the Pair of Aces, with opioid use and abuse. Ending this threat requires a coordinated, community-wide effort between non-traditional partners to address the immediate crisis as well as the root causes.
How can a local health department respond to an onslaught of vector control (mosquito and rat) complaints? Easy, develop a special revenue fund to wholly fund an integrated pest management program. This self-sustaining funding mechanism allows for a proactive program aimed at minimizing the vector control disease burden.
Using newly-available data on nearly one million children in Colorado, the Colorado Children's Immunization Coalition (CCIC) developed custom fact sheets to help each Senate and House district understand its level of community protection and identify areas for improvement.
