Today, as part of fulfilling its mission as the voice of local health departments, the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), representing the nation’s nearly 3,000 local governmental health departments, named Chelsea Cipriano, MPH, Executive Director, Intergovernmental Affairs at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, its 2022 Advocate of the Year.

On January 13, Senators Tina Smith (D-MN), Susan Collins (R-ME), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) reintroduced the Strengthening the Public Health Workforce Act (S.3506), which would provide education loan repayment to eligible individuals who work in a state, local, or tribal public health department.
On September 29, 2021, two NACCHO members testified during the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis hearing, entitled “Upgrading Public Health Infrastructure: The Need to Protect, Rebuild, and Strengthen State and Local Health Departments.”
