The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted what we already know to be true: higher-risk populations are especially vulnerable to public health threats and emergencies. The COVID-19 pandemic magnified higher-risk populations are exceptionally vulnerable to public health threats and emergencies.
In 2022, the County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency (HSA) – Public Health Division was selected to participate in NACCHO’s CDC-funded Equipping Local Health Departments to Address Vaccine Hesitancy project.
Local health department (LHD) immunization programs have been working hard to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are available to all people in their communities. NACCHO spoke with two LHDs in Minnesota—Goodhue County Health and Human Services and Polk County Public Health— about how they have reached priority populations in their areas. Their strategies and approaches can help other LHDs do the same.
