About FLEXED Learning Community
In July 2025, NACCHO launched the Flexible Local Epidemiology for X-factor Emerging Diseases (FLEXED) Learning Community as a pilot initiative to strengthen local epidemiology capacity for emerging infectious disease response. This community was guided by Peer Ambassadors from five local health departments who helped identify strengths, gaps, and priority learning needs across jurisdictions.
2025 FLEXED Webinar Recordings and Workbooks
As part of the first FLEXED Learning Community cohort, NACCHO hosted a four-part webinar series focused on building flexible, response-ready epidemiology capacity for emerging and ongoing infectious disease threats. Each webinar is accompanied by a practical workbook designed to support application and reflection.
To learn more about the first cohort, explore the FLEXED Learning Path, a practical guide outlining key webinars, peer learning sessions, tools, and resources developed through the inaugural cohort. The Learning Path supports continued learning and also serves as an orientation tool for staff newly engaging with FLEXED.
August 21, 2025 - Surveillance systems
This webinar focused on the role of surveillance systems in early detection, situational awareness, and decision-making at the local level.
September 18, 2025 - Strengthening Outbreak Investigations
This session explored core outbreak investigation principles, coordination challenges, and practical strategies for conducting investigations in varied local contexts.
October 16, 2025 - Communication Partnership Identification, Assessment, and Development
This webinar examined how strong communication partnerships support surveillance and outbreak response, and provided tools for identifying, assessing, and strengthening those relationships.
November 13, 2025 - Communicating Public Health
The final webinar focused on clear, plain-language communication strategies to support trust, understanding, and action during public health response efforts.

The FLEXED Virtual Community is now open to all NACCHO members, providing ongoing access to webinar recordings, resources, and peer discussion. Beginning in February 2026, FLEXED will launch a new year of webinars, resources, and learning opportunities as part of the 2026 cohort.
