Job Posting: Director of Division of Viral Hepatitis (DVH) in NCHHSTP at CDC

Apr 26, 2018 | Kim Rodgers

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is actively recruiting for a Director of its Division of Viral Hepatitis (DVH) in the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB (NCHHSTP) and welcomes your assistance in candidate recruitment (the announcement is attached for your information). Please share this job posting with your networks. Those interested should apply by May 23, 2018.

As a leader at CDC, the Division Director will play a key role in bringing together science, programs, policy, and communications to prevent, diagnose, and treat viral hepatitis. Viral hepatitis, particularly hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), is a major cause of disease and mortality in the United States. Over 4 million people are estimated to be living with HBV or HCV infection in the United States, and while viral hepatitis-related deaths have begun to decline in recent years, new cases are on the rise. Most of the new cases of HBV and HCV in the United States are occurring among young adults who inject drugs and have been attributed to the nation’s opioid crisis. Cases of hepatitis A virus (HAV) are also increasing with multiple, ongoing person-to-person HAV outbreaks in various state and local jurisdictions among unvaccinated people who are homeless and among those who use injection and non-injection drugs. The Division of Viral Hepatitis is fiscally responsible for a total budget in excess of $35 million and employs 93 FTE staff and 23 non-FTE staff.

This Division, in collaboration with U.S. and global partners, provides the scientific and programmatic foundation and leadership for the prevention and control of viral hepatitis infections and their manifestations. DVH has a broad scope of activities, including outbreak investigations; surveillance programs; analytic, cost-effectiveness, vaccine, and behavioral studies; and the prevention and control of blood-borne, enteric, sexual, and chronic diseases.

Additional information about major duties and responsibilities as well as job requirements is attached.

Please apply online at www.usajobs.gov by May 23, 2018.
